Compressor flow: m³/min, l/s, FAD and Normal
A flow figure without reference conditions is ambiguous. A valid comparison needs units, reference temperature and pressure, and the capacity measurement method.
Units first, then conditions
1 m³ = 1000 l, so 1 m³/min = 16.6667 l/s and 1 l/s = 0.06 m³/min. This only converts units; it does not convert actual volumetric flow to normal flow or account for pressure, temperature or humidity.
FAD and Normal are not interchangeable
Standardised datasheets state capacity together with the operating point and test conditions. FAD is delivery referred to specified intake conditions. DAUCORE defines Normal as dry air at 0 °C and 1.01325 bar(a). This is one specific reference state, not a universal synonym for catalogue flow.
Apply site correction deliberately
In Calculate, an ideal humid-air model converts Normal flow to equivalent site volumetric flow. Enter temperature, absolute atmospheric pressure and humidity. Do not enter compressor discharge gauge pressure as atmospheric pressure. Before transferring to selection, check the catalogue’s reference conditions.
What to prepare
- Keep the datasheet’s original units
- Confirm flow reference conditions
- Do not mix bar(a) with gauge pressure
- Compare model operating points
This guide helps assemble inputs. Check the complete datasheet for the specific model’s conditions.
