Clarity in air. Confidence in choice.

Equipment selection

Choosing an air compressor: from application to specification

Start with air consumers. Motor power and model names become useful once flow, pressure and operating duty are known.

List the air consumers

List equipment, required flow and minimum inlet pressure. Identify simultaneous and sequential consumers. For an existing plant, measurements over a duty cycle are more useful than adding nameplate maxima. Peak flow, average flow and peak duration are distinct inputs.

Describe the site and constraints

Specify power supply, ambient temperature, installation space, ventilation and noise limits. For portable equipment, add autonomy and movement conditions. State expansion plans separately; reserve capacity needs a clear justification to avoid oversizing.

Compare the package, not just the compressor

Check the operating point, control type, air treatment and servicing. Filters and dryers have their own flow and pressure limits. Prepare several technically suitable options and compare the same delivery scope. These requirements can be sent to any supplier.

What to prepare

  • Application and consumer list
  • Flow with units and reference conditions
  • Pressure at the consumer
  • Operating hours and load profile
  • Air quality, site conditions and reserve
